I went in for my routine annual checkup. I had no issues by the way, just wanted my bloodwork done. While chatting with the doctor, I mentioned something I have always mentioned to my primary cares during my annual visit. Had no concerns or plans to do anything about it (elective). Doctor decided to charge both "Annual wellness" AND "Office Visit", which ended up with me needing to pay for a visit that was supposed to be covered by insurance. She also ordered a lot of bloodwork that my insurance told me was not considered preventive. Guess who had to pay for it. ME. I have never ever had this issue with any other doctor I've ever visited in my life (mid 30s).

Be careful when you think you are making small talk with the doctor. She is going to charge you for it, even if she is in the room for less than 5 minutes total.

Your account shows you discussed other issues with your physician that fall outside of your annual exam, however, it would be charged separately from your annual visit. Below is what we have been advised by insurance as what is included in a annual wellness visit and what is not.
What is included in a Well Visit?
· Reviewing your healthy history, medications, and allergies with you.
· Ordering screening tests, like mammogram or blood tests that are looking for diseases or problems that have not been diagnosed.
· Updating your vaccines.
· Giving you ideas to help your health. This could be diet, exercise, and weight control. It could also be advice about risks.
·
What is not included in a Well Visit?
· Taking care of new problems, like colds, back pain, or rashes.
· Treating ongoing problems, like diabetes or high blood pressure.
· Refilling any medications.
· Testing for new problem.
· Testing to monitor ongoing problems. Labs for chronic diseases (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol) will have cost-sharing and not be covered at 100%.
· Not included means you will get a bill for deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurance. Your insurance decides what is paid. Keep in mind, your deductible starts over at the beginning of your plan year.

It is possible to combine a Well Visit and a regular office visit. If this happens, your regular office visit portion of the bill will incur a co-pay, co-insurance or deductible. Dr. Sun is very knowledgeable! She listens to her patients and treats them with professionalism, care, and understanding. She was able to diagnose my gallbladder issue just by a virtual visit. She set up the necessary testing for my pain and we found out that I needed my gallbladder removed. She is truly the best doctor I have ever had as my primary care.
